Site History

The site has been managed for timber and fiber production for the past 80 years. Management activities included converting botomland hardwood wetlands and hardwood uplands to loblolly pine plantations, mechanical site preparation, ditching wetlands, and straightening and relocating streams to improve pine survival and productivity.

Restoration

WES will restore the streams through Priority 1 restoration, including constructing a new alignment, harvesting and installing suitable bed material, and installing grade and bank stabilization structures and vegetation. WES will also restore connectivity to the surrounding floodplain and bottomland hardwood wetlands, remove the existing pine plantation, perform earthwork as needed, and plant target tree species in the surrounding wetland and upland areas.
